Neo-neorealism

by Steve Barbaro
Neo-neorealism

 Oil bubbles on metal: gold-looping…

He likes his body clean, would like his body
Burned: his sons must mix his ashes in milk
Shakes to be glazed
on the gravestones
Of well-known former Cold War diplomats.

Maple syrup warms in rusted vats…
Steve Barbaro is originally from the Chicagoland area, and is currently a first-year MFA in poetry at the University of Virginia. “Neo-neorealism” is from his first book-length manuscript, titled Abyss/Edifice.
